GroupLink eHelpDesk Script Insertion and XSS

Friday, 12 October 2007

Vendor: GroupLink

Description:

Some vulnerabilities have been reported in GroupLink eHelpDesk, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct script insertion attacks and by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

1) Input passed to the "NA_DISPLAYNAME" parameter in helpdesk/user/rf_create.jsp is not properly sanitised before being stored. This can be exploited to insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in an administrative user's browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious data is viewed.

2) Input passed to the "username" and "LDAPError" parameters in index2.jsp is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 6.2.2. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a web proxy.

Provided and/or discovered by:
1) nights shadow
2) an anonymous person
